interesting discussion...as reproductions or unlicenced and original release seem to be the issues correct?? lets start with fact that all theatrical Posters from National screen service clearly state not to be sold, or even given away and remain property of the studios... so in essence its all stolen contraband right? as this material was never made to be purchased by fans , collectors or sold and auctioned.. so I was either taken orstolen by theater managers, employees, and back door deals or from the rubbish.. correct?

if thats true then we have to ask who came up with the notion of colectability based on condition, release date, and the criteria used by peel in the business of sellng Posters? what is the pedigree? well someohow it went from I want a original release as its authentic to a original release thats Rolled to I want a folded as its authetic... and various conditions made up as the hobby grew doe to supply and demand.. then came the reproductions where companys like portal took a original , shot a photo of original and made copys for sale.. the market was directed to people that ikked Movies pure and simple as " Movie memorabilia" is anything that congers up memorysof Movies wheather original or reproduction, or more as it comes in varous forms... and even substrates,, a video tape, a costume, a autograph, a book, a photo, a package, a toy, on and on,,its all Movie memorabilia... just as Sat wars toys are movie memorabilia...My experience in this was tested and proved in a US federal court..and I studied 3000 books on the entire history of motion pictures from inception and pre cine to recent... heck the movie industry has a identity cris as they dont even know what they are doing as peopel have no idea what format to even buy as it chages each year.. Next seems to be all content by online media.. so vhs tapes will become memorabilia if they dont decay as the machines rubber bels disintgrate... I know this is a repair old projectors and parts are almos all gone inthe last 10 years... back to posters,,when I got in this Movie memorabilia,, It was because I was fascinated with the enitire production of motion pictures.. so I used poster to create a mood in my office with entertainment memorabilia of things and peopel I liked,, since I like all aspects I had old gear, move reels , tins , director chairs, photosm posters and even old movie magazines which by themselve are time capsules.. as I advanced I would clean out entire old theaers of seats, projection gear, theater tickets and anything I could get...over 38 years Ive had many peopel call me that where the biz as far away as england and ou common bond was not so much money based but love of the cinema craft..somehow... with the peopel I met and talked to they didnt buy this as investments...matter of fact I didnt either,, we bought it as we needed to save it, I jus got a call yesterday by a man at a museum near bowling green who shows ww2 war footage newsreels to schoolchildren so they can see the real movie projector work..his unit wont hold pic frame so I offered to go and help him not because i will get money but when he told me how fascinated kids where to see actual film I flashed back to age 12-13 ,, see it was a big honor to get to run the projector in school only mos trusted would get the job... oh How i wanted to run it and wold raise my hand only to be not chosen..so its ironic a Museum would call me 50 years later to diagnose thier projector.. and I understand very well what those kids joy is as it was mine also and still is..even after quiting school at 15 I went back just for 1 class uncredited in super8mm film.. however I had no funds for filmstock so my films where minimal...and lost. so... during my heydey in the Movie memorabilia business many came and many left most because they had no genuine love of the movie industry or movies or the history... it became horder's and investors to make a buck...anyone that has been in the business including the studios has had to modify many things to stay in the business at all IMHO...heck... the studios kept getting aquired by each other and things demolished thrown away... film itself has become almost a lost medium...so whats my point in all this????

Ill speak for myself as I have been thinking who i am what i have as policy's and what my mission is...what I would like to leave behind to others and what I hope I can do... I always wanted and did do it combine all Of Movie memorabilia as a educational tool along withe the motion picture process as a way for people to create, communicate, and show artistic and chronical history, for all ages and all genres and mediums...thats why ive seen Moveis as the epitomy of all the areas, sage design costume, the lighting, makeup, the players, props, special effects,, its all part of the memorablia,, heck even the batmobile car and ghostbuster cars are stars in thier own right... am I or anyone else able to say whats what and why ??? no..imho its all interpetation as the history keeps evolving... trust me many of the things ive aquiered like laminated poster most scoff at...

why.. because they are Money motivated only not passion to look at the visual images of a 400 piece lot of horror universal films that sell for 10000$$ ... see now back to the kids... how many would show and allow 10 year olds to hold and hanndle thier vintage lobbie cards,,? whats great about these cards is they are sealed and will last my lifetime and can be shared with many... even Forest Akerman saved his cards this way and he was probably the most passonate monster fan i ever met..! the people Ive met that actully love the stuff the most are seldom rich or well off.. they are starving artists or old actors that dont even have thier own materials...if you read most where and are like that... so in defence of what people have said they sell NO reproductons only a original.. the other day a man called me wanted vampire movies...and he was so elated I had material... albiet it was much reproduction... he wanted posters to decorate his home with a vampire movie theme and was so happy he called back and asked for more, because its afforadable, and he can enjoy the films he enjoys and the same art is the same that was out when the films where made.. as its really about the movies after all.. so to me im appealing to who I want to make happy which is all ages, all collectors from novice to advanced.. just yesterday a person asked for pics and prices on eastwood posters i have... they are not perfect shape on some others are like new...and then I have one issued by wb that is pristine rolled dirty hairy but some would call t a reproduction as it came out later even though the studio printed it... fact is i see I am from a complete different mind set of why posters are even important and never want to be that limited to not buy a poster because it has a tear or anything as i find that completely ridiculous... but if paper condition or the fact of a specific release date is paramount you probably don't want to do business with me... and somehow for 38 years enough people did.. and I am happy to serve the regular Joe just as i am sure Hollywood wants as many common people also to rent and see films. because My company is about sharing dreams , hope, and honoring the creators and artists from the entire Movie industry..each memento, magazine, prop ,arifact postcard, ticket empty popcorn box.. represents the world of movies to me and I hope to share it... also to help collectors rid themselves of long time collections of stuff and get it to museums and do something productive like archive it and use it to educate future filmmakers , and use t as a vehicle to fundraise and sponsor charitys , causes, kids and help offer venues and access to creative stimuli is my biggest reason to even continue offering Movie memorabilia... If I can help anyone please contact me.. also let it be known.. Hollywood Dream Factory® since 1977 -supplies to every kind of collector and people that just love motion pictures regardless of income or abilities... I would be happy to help any museum or archive that has mass amounts of material network with others as Ive started to gain quite a few curators that need donations and help to get the word out... My services are free,,sure i could use expence's covered but so far i am getting blessings from many places.. I will also help others dealers and those that need help from my 38 years in this crazy hobby business.for those in it for the money alone..... well I figured after the well ran dry most would leave just like goldminers did.. but whats cool is the truly passionate ones that started years ago are still there.. because it wasnt just about the money that mattered,,it was the memories of the Movies themselves.if you need a inexpensve gift this christmas for someone that likes movies please contact me as I am sure i may have something.. I am a little slow finding thngs but eventually get there...I plan to list more on ebay..have a great weekend mopo folks.and thanks to hose that have bought posters and various movie memorabilia from us in the past...and remeber also one of the largest movie poster dealersin USA emovieposter - Bruce Hershenson offers reproducions along with originals and just hit something under 4 million dollars this year alone.. so you may wnat to reconsider your business models Folks.. unless you can just deal in frankenstien 1 sheets original in pristine shape. :)

so if i understand it right , you checked to see how many repros there
were in the originals categories ?
were you able to do so in 24 hours ?
and with repros you mean reproductions of original movie posters , not
just posters that have images of say marilyn monroe or Audrey Hepburn
right ?

and that gives " double the amount of repros on ebay than original
posters every day of the year (if not 3-4x) "

well, we're always in for a bit of fun when you post Rich , thanks

wow.. so you only look in the actual vintage posters category and you
also don't take the time to see how many repros are in the originals
categories?

try adding each category under the top level category Entertainment
Memorabilia [14] and examining each one for how many repros are listed
in these categories

also go to art prints, televison collectibles and a number of others

 how about this

do a search for "Casablanca poster" in movie memorabilia and you get
219 listings in movie memorabilia, but if you do a global search
through all ebay categories you find 820 listings
of course, you will find lots of items that aren't a Casablanca
poster in there, but it's one example where there are very many
reproduction posters loaded throughout the ebay site, while at the
same time, you can be reasonably certain that 95-99% of the original
posters will be listed in the correct category

also who knows where you got those numbers you posted
this is the count for the 3 categories only.

 Originals-United States [15] (176,323)
 Originals-International [16] (74,668)
 Reproductions [17] (97,929)

now, be a good little boy & go count all the repros & bootlegs in the
original US category.. then get back to me...

Are reproductions and counterfeits “flooding” the market?
Really?
I don’t think so. Sure, there have been some fakes and some
chicanery.
But the vast majority of movie posters out there are authentic.

I wish bidll good luck, certainly.

But the idea that most collectors are going to encounter fakes
wholesale is just not true.

Think about the millions of movie posters that exist. And then
think about
what percentage of these you believe to be fake. In my experience
it isn’t even one tenth of one percent if that!

Dave,

How did these various newspapers and media outlets get wind of

Did you (or an associate) contact them is some capacity to let them

With reproductions and counterfeits flooding the market and major
retailers also using the sites as another outlet for their products,
Mr Rew said finding original collectible bargains was becoming more
difficult.

“It’s become less about finding that special piece for your
collection and more about shopping for everything else. As a
collector I don’t want to wade through all the everyday retail
items, the reproductions, the reprints and the knock-offs just to
find that special piece I need for to my collection.”

Bidll will cater solely for passionate collectors with reprints,
reproductions, fakes and counterfeits banned.
