Hello Alan the only books I ever saw were supposed to price almanac by Johnny KISCH ANMD THER WAS A FEW POSTER PRICE GUIDES BY A MAN IN TennesseeANDA FEW movie memorabilia price guides and we would follow any film collectors roll or a big real or classic images collector newspapers to try to get a gauge on what stuff was selling for

Also ED AND SUE POOLE ABOUT MOVIE POSTERS AND OF COURSE BRUCE HERSHENSON'S MOVIE POSTER HISTORY OF SALES ALONG WITH HERITAGE AND JUST LOOKING AT OLD EBAY HISTORY ADS OF WHAT POSTERS WE'RE SELLING FOR IN MAKING AN EDUCATED GUESS From my 46 years of selling movie memorabilia what haVE learned SO MANY FACTORS COME INTO PLAY OF POSTER PRICE VALUES AND IN THE RECENT YEARS THE PROLIFERATION OF CROOKS AND DECEPTION HAS INCREASED 100 FOLD IF NOT MORE ABOUT ALL WE CAN DO IS BE HONEST AND DESCRIBE THE ITEMS AS BEST AS POSSIBLE AND WHAT SOLD FOR $1000 LAST WEEK DEPENDING ON THE ECONOMY AND OTHER FACTORS LIKE COVID AND THE AGE GROUP WHERE IS IT BUYING AND INVESTING IN POSTERS IT'S REALLY A CRAPSHOOT

I was always ask what's the best posters to sell and they sell for various reasons it could've been A MEMORY OR A FILM THAT GARNERED LOTS OF INTEREST, OR COULD BE THAT THE PERSON WAS COLLECTING I'M AN ACTOR OR DIRECTOR OR WRITER AND SO THEY TRY TO ACQUIRE STORICO BACKGROUND OF THAT FILMMAKER OR ACTOR OR CREATOR

WHEN I CHOSE TITLES TO INVEST IN IT WAS BASICALLY IS THE MOVIE BUFF LIKE IN THE MOVIES I WOULD CHOOSE WHAT IMPRESSED ME LIKE RAIDERS OF THE LOST STAR STAR WARS BLADE RUNNER MANY OF THE POPULAR 80S MOVIES BACK TO THE FUTURE JUST TRYING TO PICK OUT WHAT WILL BE THE BEST SELLERS I ALWAYS GET SOME MARILYN MONROE MATERIAL GONE WITH THE WIND CASABLANCA AND ALMOST ANY OF THE MONSTER FILMS RELATED TO UNIVERSAL STUDIOS THE GENRES BECAME A CRITICAL POINT AND FOR SOME REASON THE MOST DESIRED TITLE WHO ARE THE ECLECTIC SCI-FI MOVIE MONSTERS TITLES AS WELL AS CLASSIC MOVIES OF THE 30S AND 40S THAT ARE STILL POPULAR EVEN TODAY

WHAT'S FUNNY IS THERE ARE MANY POSTERS THAT STILL WILL SELL FOR MANY DIFFERENT REASONS I WOULD ALWAYS TELL COLLECTORS AND DEALERS BY WHAT YOU WOULDN'T MIND GETTING STUCK WITH AS IT'S ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO KNOW WHAT ITEMS WILL CONTINUE THIS SONG

A good example of is model railroad trains toys like Lionel trains back in the 50s and 60s it was a big thing to collect toy trains and have a big layout I have one myself with a s gauge American fLYER However that DemOgraphic Age group is dying out supermarket because young people don't want to collect toy trains no matter how good they are
How would assume the same rules apply with movie posters

Current age groups not exactly interested in vintage western cowboy films like Hop Along Cassidy and the lake

Shift in what people want

Yep the classic horror films genre seems to be holding its ground just AS and music
MOTOWN, BLUEWS JAZZAND COUNTRY HAS MORHHED IMHO

Excellent point about artist’s representations vs. the

I collect pressbooks for variations in the designed-to-sell category.

But, I remember the first time I saw a Mondo (Perhaps that term - like
the word Kleenex - can stand for all that came after) -
It was Wow! - What an incredible idea! Why hadn’t someone thought of
that before?
My next thought was… How much is it going to cost me?!

Is there a book on this material or a set of a finely printed boxed
set of postcards (as was done for Hatch Show Prints) that would share
a full selection of key art to enjoy?

I agree with you Charles with maybe one exception..As a collector I
like many of the Mondo artist interpretations …I collect
everything but am partial to horror/ sci fi..realizing I’m never
gonna own a Frankenstein one sheet I was vey happy to obtain a copy
of the Francesco Francavilla Frankenstein mondo poster (green
colored Frankenstein) ..sometimes the artists really nail it as I
believe was the case with this poster ..and for some movies like
white zombie anything would be better than the original 1
sht..(again my opinion)..I also think some of the more (i’ll use
the word abstract) offerings are great for example the Darth Vader
where the trees make up his eyes was inspired..I do take exception
to the jaws comment ..jaws posters are not rare they sell for a lot
of money and if rolled never folded for a lot more money..I wanted a
jaws poster but was not willing to pay 1000’s of dollars for a
rolled copy ..i was happy to obtain the mondo screen print in mint
condition with it layered colors giving the water the perfect blue
color ..I also like that many mondo are 24x36 so they fit into a
stock frame..anyway wishing all Mopo a happy holiday season ..best

I was very anti-print for a very long time… I posted multiple
rants on the various forums. Beanie babies V2.0… I was sure. I
still worry about oversaturation of the key blockbuster titles. But
am excited if some of these artists started latching on to some of
the art films like Red Shoes and Days of Heaven which Durieux has
done nicely. Prints also provide opportunity for art on TV shows and
the new limited series trend.

There is some really nice art and there are new artists from all
over the world stepping out in the private commission world. There
is a thriving print community in the UK now that is far exceeding
the art and printing of recent MONDO prints. I think the only
mistake is thinking that MONDO is the only one out there worth
collecting… Really MONDO as a brand has peaked IMO - in fact, they
sold out to mega corporate Funko. I
Also despise how MONDO has simply copied classic poster art like
Jaws...

I also feel that a shift will continue as new modern posters are
riddled with suspect bootlegs & fakes now. Double sided posters are
now easily reproduced and even harder to spot.

The screen printing or giclee w/texture layers techniques are unique
and hard to imagine being bootlegged. I've seen 11x14 fakes on eBay
but anyone with sense would know to avoid. Prints are also limited
runs with just a handfull of APs... There are enough collectors to
make a 200 poster run of a hot title scarce.

I have given in and see continued demand with limited supplies for
these. It is also a entirely different set of collectors and they
are mingling with us original poster junkies now for sure. I think a
nice blend of both is now a good healthy collection.

Wishing all of you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Well said, Alan.

My take on 10,000 Mondos being sold in a couple of months is that
INVESTORS see this as bad for business, but that COLLECTORS see this
as an incredible buying opportunity.

Happy holidays to all, and here's hoping 2023 is better than the
past few years (that isn't setting the bar very high, but we have to
start somewhere)!

Dear Mopos -

My take on the whole Mondo movement is that they’re fantastic.
They offer an homage to films we love with affordable prices for the
super-classics, and beefed-up better-than-the-original posters for
many titles that had just plain bad art to start with. (Those bad
art originals are still my real favorites, though!)

They’re great fan art - The successes and the just-okay ones.

I’m guided by one simple rule, however, if I’m drawn to
something, I go after it.
Having never been a gambler, if something never increases in value,
I still have something I’ve enjoyed that means something to me.
This is the collector’s attitude, but it does speak to the
investor and dealer in me as well.
Of the countless movie posters ever created, only a small percentage
have ever broken out in terms of high-priced sales.
When I started collecting posters I got them from the trash behind
theaters. They were all golden to me because I loved them and cared
for them.
One of the greatest surprises of my adult life is that any of them
ever increased in value.

I still pull stuff out of the trash, care for it, and love it.
I even go after the stuff nobody else wants, finding beauty in the
rejected.
Collect and invest in what you like because the true treasure is
always in the eye of the beholder.
There’s no guarantee for success in this crazy world, but have a
good time along the way and success becomes a bonus.
The monster poster you pick up off the floor in an old theater 50
years ago pays your light bill for a month.

Happy Holidays out there in Mopo-land.
Tom, Ron, Kirby, Helmut, Bruce, Grey, and all the rest.
And may Santa stuff your stockings with the printed paper of your
dreams.

2428 Mondo posters in a single auction... Plus another 2530 Mondo
posters from Bruce in October, and another 257 in July 2022, plus
thousand more that were sold through Heritage, and let's not forget
about ebay here... That's what, like 10,000 Mondo posters sold in
2022 alone?

Is there ANYBODY left out there who still thinks these posters are a
safe investment??? Mondo seemed a fun idea when they first started
out, but now the sheer number of them is simply inflationary.

I'm not saying it is impossible to make money with Mondo posters,
but the idea of an 'automated' or 'guaranteed' profit' is plain
silly at this point.

That said, I also bought a Mondo poster this year, the lobby card
style for HALLOWEEN that can be seen here:

https://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/archiveitem/5338244.html [3]

This is still fairly easily found for about $100, so it's a far cry
from the expensive Mondos on this title. I like it because it
reminds me of the House scene from PSYCHO, which has always been one
of my favorite lobby cards ever:

https://www.filmposter.net/en/psycho-original-release-us-lobby-card.html
[4]

In person, the Mondo poster is much nicer than the image suggest,
but again: I bought it because I liked it, not as an investment in
the first place. Although I have little doubt that I will be able to
generate a small profit with this one in the long run.
