Don't you think this could be a function of individual learning modality? I personally am a visual learner, and even my kids tell me to "Write it down, Mom," if they want me to remember something they've told me, so that I'll have a visual reference. My daughter, on the other hand, is strongly aural--can't remember anything she reads unless she reads it aloud. Isn't this what differentiated instruction is all about?
