What about his writing? Fast Forward has been really successful with
some of our kids with certain types of visual problems. Has 'dyslexia'
been consiered. Especially if he is highly verbal. Dyslexic kids tend
to have high verbal skills and fantastic coping/management skills. I
have a very close friend with a dyslexic son, fantastically bright kid
but cannot read. Just a thought, somewhere to go with it, but I would
be really interested to know about your son's spelling. I feel positive
that a specialist diagnosis would find the problem for you so that the
most successful 'intervention' can take place to support your son. S

Subject: [MOSAIC] Off Topic But Replys Appreciated

Hi Everyone,
Sorry about this off topic response but you're the best resource that I
have right now. My son is going into the 4th grade. He has already
repeated Kindergarten because he wasn't "developmentally ready". His
DRA score at the end of 3rd grade was an early 2nd. His ScanTron test
(if you're familiar with
it) also indicated trouble in reading. I'm not stupid, I know that
there is a problem but I teach 5th grade and have been not so patiently
waiting to see what was going to happen. He's done summer camps etc.
NOW...our school is looking into an online program called "Let's Go
Learn". His evaluation shows that his oral vocabulary is high 4th
grade, but his word recognition is low 1st grade. Doesn't this scream
visual tracking and/or perception problem to you? I'm too close to the
subject. He doesn't like school or reading, but I can understand why.
Any comments on the subject?
Thanks,
Michele
