John Sheffelbine(California) has a decoding program where students learn to quickly recognize common syllables. I don't know the name of it.

My son is going into the 4th grade. He has already repeated Kindergarten because he wasn't "developmentally ready". His DRA score at the end of 3rd grade was an early 2nd. His ScanTron test (if you're familiar with it) also indicated trouble in reading. I'm not stupid, I know that there is a problem but I teach 5th grade and have been not so patiently waiting to see what was going to happen. He's done summer camps etc. NOW...our school is looking into an online program called "Let's Go Learn". His evaluation shows that his oral vocabulary is high 4th grade, but his word recognition is low 1st grade. Doesn't this scream visual tracking and/or perception problem to you? I'm too close to the subject. He doesn't like school or reading, but I can understand why. Any comments on the subject? Thanks, Michele **************Vote for your city's best dining and nightlife.
