Great video from the past!  I grew up in the same town Lowell Thomas was raised 
in!!  BTW...as a product of the 50's/60's curriculum, I was taught phonics!!!  
Not only was it introduced through our reading series (Ginn, Scott Foresman, 
Laidlaw...) but we had Think and Do workbooks and many, many ditto sheets made 
up by the teachers!!!!!!

I was also born in '55..a very good year:) Interestly enough, my Trends and 
Isues students presented their 50-60 literacy through the decades

Oh wow does this ever take me back...the really strange thing is I can still
picture Dick Jane the cat dog etc.  I remember the story lines of some
stories even!
I was born in 1955 so Renee they still had it out when I started school.  I
do remember filling in phonics workbook pages with letter associated with
pictures.
