Pearson has all the strategies included but the lessons are weak. Thank
goodness I have already used Growing Readings, Mosaic of Thought, the
comprehension toolkit and was already using a reading and writing workshop
format. I can beef up the strategy lessons and build the daily 5 schedule in
a way that works for the kids. The Pearson literature is also weak. The
shared reading materials have bored my kids and many of the guided reading
books are not motivating. We are given leeway to make decisions regarding
literature that fits and motivates our students.

Which word study programs have you used for grades 4-6?

Our district has begun using the Pearson materials. What I really like
about the program is that it integrates reading, writing, and word study in
a
consistent manner. There is more material than you could ever teach in a
school year and is great for beginning teachers. Not so great for those of
us
who got a master's degree in literacy. But I do like the fact that
everyone in the district is now teaching word study and the same topics in
writing. There are always pluses and minuses to every program it seems.
