Highlights this morning at Rapids Lake MVNWR were some repeats and a few recent
arrivals. The male Northern Harrier soared over Rapids Lake. The Swamp
Sparrow continued in his winter home(area has had flowing water all winter with
water continuously seeping out of the bluff). 3 Yellow-rumped Warbler were
further north than they have been in previous weeks along the lake shore. 1 of
these was a male transitioning to breeding plumage. Arrivals included a few
Horned Larks, 4 Eastern Bluebird, and a Brown-headed Cowbird. The only
difference in rural birds was the arrival of several Horned Larks after a 2
month absence.
