I appreciate the gesture, but it's better to contribute this to the official GMP project. The reason is that it is in their namespace. If they add a similar function later, it may end up with a different name, or worse still, same name, different semantics!
If you contribute it to GMP and it becomes part of the public interface, we will also put it in MPIR, so you'll still get the contribution into MPIR. It's just better if they decide on names and specifications for parts of the public interface, not us. (There have been exceptions to this in the past, e.g. the threadsafe random functions in MPIR. But experience tells us it is not a good idea for us to try to encroach onto this part of the namespace.) Thanks for thinking of contributing it to us though. I appreciate that.
