The key word here in my book is "loan". Yes, it is
interest-free, which does involve the loss of bankable
monies, but isn't this a far better deal than any that
the Twins have ever proposed? Isn't it far better than
the crappy deals we were given for the Target
buildings, the Federal Reserve or Northwest Airlines?

When I think back on the origination of the term
"corporate welfare" I remember how PO'ed we in the
progressive community were by the disparity between
the virulent opposition the business community and
other conservatives were over social safety net
programs and business subsities, which were never
challenged. That's why the term was coined. Never did
I think it would become a knee-jerk reaction against
all uses of public funds to aid private entities.

Call me a big spending liberal (no, please do, cause I
am), but I have no problem advocating for more funds
for affordable housing, environmental clean-up, mass
transit, education...AND giving an interest-loan to
the Minnesota Twins for a stadium which I and many
others will enjoy for years to come.
