Two notes about Block E. At the time the idea for Block E was pitched the Council was told by Brookfield that Block E was needed to stabilize City Center and help it out. If so why are none of the retail establishments open in City Center in the evening. Even if you went to an early movie, as we have done twice, and wanted to shop, nothing is open.

Secondly if you want to use the close-captioned theatres you must call ahead to see what movies are being shown. There are only two theatres with close-captioning. It seems that there should be some sort of symbol in the advertising, like an asterisk, with a footnote to let people know. Also when you do get to the theatre, none of the staff seems to know anything about the close-captioning system. Otherwise the parking is free when you go to see a movie, whether or not that will lure suburbanites remains to be seen. The movies I've been to have only had 5-20 people attending.

Oh, and on another hilarious note. After chatting with one of the Minneapolis Police officers working off-duty at Block E, he told me that some great restaurants were coming to Block E....an Applebees, a Red Lobster and a Caribou. That certainly gets me excited!!!

We went to a matinee of Two Towers on Block E on Dec. 31. Our tickets were
$5 apiece. There were about 5 other people at the showing. The seats were
great, but the staff kept walking in, talking on walky-talkies. My son had
been there two other times and said the theaters had been just as empty. He
also warned me not to bother checking out the price of popcorn since it was
outrageous.

Just a little warning. A Borders employee told me that over the lunch hour,
at the Block E  Borders, there is an extra half percent tax on food.

I may be totally out of the loop, but an ice cream on E Block for $3.50
before tax seems way out of line.
