I would use either a Xilinx Coolrunner - that's 1.8-3.3V so you can connect it direct to the MSP430 - or a Lattice isPLSI1016 (say) that runs at 3.3V or 5V. If you have broadband, you can download the development kit for either of these from the manufacturers' websites, otherwise you waill have to twist the arm of your local distributor. Either of these devices will piss on a 20 bit UD counter at 10MHz. If you need the code I can help. For 5V interfacing, you can use the 74LCX series. Paul Burke
