It is a combination of VDP and CPU.
If you'd run it with an 100 MHz Z80 and a VDP which immediately finishes
every command then it would be unplayable, because it doesn't time on the
interrupts.

The calculations between the commands are faster, so it can commence the
copying of the patterns earlier.
