I think fMSX emulates the V9938 VDP also in MSX-1 mode. So as long as the
game doesn't check for MSX2 and doesn't use any MSX2 BIOS functions (or
system variables), it will run.
I bet Space Manbow will even run in MSX2+ mode in an fMSX version that
supports the V9958, even if fMSX is told to emulate MSX1. Space Manbow
checks for V9958 using the VDP version number status register; it doesn't
need the BIOS MSX ID byte.
