This looks like correct behavior. It is basically saying it couldn't
verify the server certificate. This is the case because you rejected the
first certificate node, so it aborted the verification and shut down the
connection.
Note, the patch you tested is just to fix the weird "no start line" error
message. I haven't started working on the "skip" option.
