Interestingly, a coworker at a different office had the same thing
happen to him a while ago. I've got a large mailbox (1500+ messages),
and I open and close it from home while it's already open at work.
Sometimes I'm bad and ungracefully break my ssh connection. I've been
suspecting that I've had some small purges, but the last one was
obivously a significant loss. I've got 9+ gigs free on that computer,
so hd space isn't a concern. No quotas or anything strange (that I am
aware of) like that. I've been using Mutt for months so, it's not a
'hey I tried it and it wrecked my email!' kind of thing. It's more of
a seemingly rare (albeit significant) event.
