Is the network interface in the MediaMVP known for being easily damaged? 
It seems unlikely that a simple power cycle - even if it did cause a 
spike - would cause this.

Even if a laptop works from the same jack, there are still possibilities 
that the MediaMVP hardware may not be defective. The switch or hub it is 
wired to may not be switching to the right speed or duplex to match the 
MediaMVP.

You might try attaching the MediaMVP directly to a computer running a 
DHCP server via a crossover cable, or plugging it into a broadband 
router (with a DHCP server) using a different patch cord. The latter 
would not only bypass possible network hardware problems that may exist 
between the MediaMVP's wall jack and the DHCP server, but also eliminate 
possible problems introduced by the DHCP server software you are 
currently using.

And for a basic test, check the link, speed, and activity lights - if 
any - on the device you attach the MediaMVP to. If the link is dead or 
there is no activity, then maybe it is fried.
