I'm also struggling to get this to work (as think I have previously).

If I understand correctly this should signal to my 16:9 TV (via a
fully wired Scart connection) whether the output is 16:9 or 4:3 so
that the TV can display it correctly. Is that correct?

Actual behaviour appears to be to display everything 4:3. At the
moment the only way I can get it to display 16:9 material correctly is
to force the TV display everything as 16:9, which means I have to keep
switching it manually. I there anything I can do to fix this?

16:9auto also doesn't appear in the aspect ratio setting screen.
