That didn't work well at all. During the first half of a half-hour show, 
it seemed pretty good. But during the second half, after a commercial 
break, there was substantial A/V offset, and jumping around or hitting 
the record button couldn't correct it.

I'm guessing that maybe those frame rate shifts that I saw weren't 
compensated for when these options were used.

I reprocessed the same video with this filter, and it solved the problem 
I saw above, and sync was generally very good, though not perfect. At 
least once I still needed to compensate for a slightly perceptible offset.

I'm not entirely convinced that this filter even did anything, and that 
there was a difference from the prior transcodes I did with no audio 
sync options. One thing that makes me skeptical is that I still saw the 
warnings about skipped frames (same as with no options), and never a 
warning about a frame being added. I also am not sure that mencoder 
applies video filters when you are using the copy codec.

I'll have to test more files, and see if there is any difference in the 
file size between a run with "-vf harddup" and a run without. In theory, 
they should be different.
