Any volunteer who actually manages to improve MySQL in some way is good enough by my books; with or without the degree.

A Comp. Sci. degree is always nice, but as a degree-less individual myself, I take some offence at the reference to one being somehow necessary. For those who don't know me (and only one person on this list knows me personally, afaik) that may simply be an admission of being uneducated and therefore having no valid opinion of course.
