The "correct" entries for your my.cnf will vary depending on which features that you want to support. There is no standard contents. See the manual for the chapters on installation, configuration and optimization. Most distributions come with sample cnf files called: my-huge.cnf, my-large.cnf, my-medium.cnf and my-small.cnf. Where they will be located will vary depending on the distribution but they shouldn't be too hard to find.
