Also in PA, there is no such thing as a LICENSED massage therapist. They are
certified here. We, as Estheticians in PA can and do do backs with a massage!!!
Also, right now, anyone can do massage in PA.

Here is the definition of an aesthetician straight from the Pennsylvania
State Board:
Esthetics—
(i) The practice of massaging the face, applying cosmetic preparations,
antiseptics, tonics, lotions or creams to the face, removing superfluous
hair by tweezers, depilatories or waxes, eyelash perming and the dyeing of
eyelashes and eyebrows.
(ii) The term includes the use of industry standard mechanical and
electrical apparatus and appliances in the practice of esthetics.

Esthetician—An individual licensed by the Board to practice esthetics.
Maybe that is one of the reasons Massage therapists get upset. We need to
be very aware of exactly what our scope of practice actually is. BTW< I am a
massage therapist and an aesthetician so, legally I can massage while I
give a body treatment.

Actually, we as aestheticians can do body treatments only as in taking
care of the skin of the body. No state board actually allows us to do massage
on the back. you can apply product for beautification purposes only.

One thing everyone forgets is that an Esthetician also does the back- so
in essence, we CAN do back massages! So I can actually massage most of the
body under my dual licenses. In PA anyway!
