Ok cool! I don't mind tossing the brush. I just didn't want to contaminate my gel.

Michelle,$if they lost the nail, and it had been gone for some time, there is usually no fungus there. It is just hard skin. If you feel that it is, then soak your brush in pure acetone for a few minutes. Acetone WILL remove any "cooties.". One thing to remember is that it is only the product that is touching the nail-not the brush. If you are that concerned, then string the gel on and buff it into shape when it is cured. I usually use acrylic to sculpt out my clients' toes. Again, clean the brush with acetone. If you use a nylon brush, you do not have to worry about "things" creeping into it. The bristles are not porous.

What about cross contamination in the gel? The brush touches the fungus then goes back in the gel. Ick!

I have 3 clients like you describe... over the years I have had tons. I use dispoable files anyway so no worries of cross contamination... They usually only last a month depending on how much nail they have to anchor it to, but they are thrilled to have "normal" feet and become regulars. That allows me to keep an eye on them, and take them off and replace them if they do anything weird. I was orginally against the idea, but my client said "What? Like if it screws something up, they are gonna remove the toenail?!? LOL... already happened..." so I gave it a shot. I have had no problems over the years. Not one single problem. It can be a challenge to build though... :)

Can I, and more to the point, should I build a prosthetic gel nail over a nail that's mostly gone and the remainder is fungal? That just seems like a bad idea to me, but never having done it before, I want the advice of the experts.

Thanks
