The wonderful thing about EDAC connectors is that they are really easy
to reconfigure if they aren't right.
I strongly reccommend that you have your cables wired with the
sheild terminated at one end only (except the Mic sources, of course).

It then continues across the connector in rows of eight channels.
The "custom" stuff is usually whether they put all 40 tape-
outs on one connector (on a 40 ch desk) or split it up over two
connectors.
