Yes -- being on the same broadband supplier might help to -- that would
avoid many of the congestion at peering or network cross over points.

strategy -- basically whatever you use to start the call does not affect the
quality of the call so the choice ( none of them are mutually exclusive btw)
would be based on what fits your needs  - I recommend in  your case that you
use Msn Messenger -- it has a buddy system approach to contacts so that you
and your mother can avoid the open often blue atmosphere of the public
servers.

The email address contact method  of reaching a contact via an ils server
only works if you both log into the same ils server.
