[newbie] KDE and Other WinManagers

Hi,

Can anyone tell me if Kde coexist with other Window managers. If yes
which ones and how do I make it possible. 
I have tried to have a .xinitrc file in my home directory ( for
AfterStep), but when I startx all it does is to raplace mine with the
default.
What have I done wrong? 
I've tried the same with Enlightenment and no success. What am I
supposed to do?
