Follow these steps: 1. Enter to setup 2. Disable APM in power management 3. Save and Exit 4. When it appears the indicator "boot:" write "linux text" and press Enter 5. :)

What happens when you attempt an install in text mode? It would seem that if the problem continues across multiple distros, then hardware would be the first place I would start looking. Try a different video card. Also, you may want to look into the possibility of a bad install CD, I had a similar problem installing MDK 8.2, and then burned another copy and it worked flawless... a lot of research, time and effort was wasted on that one.
