Well I've got a working version on but I cannot say I'm all that happy.
For one thing I have had to go back to an old mplayer tar ball

John, I can send you the .spec for mplayer-0.90.rc2.
It can be built as straight mdk or with more bells and whistles as plf.
I have built and tested it myself on my 9.0 system and it contains no requirements which are not available from either the mdk 9.0 tree or the
plf 9.0 tree, just use urpmi to install any pkgs it says you are missing.
Should you have problem building it I can probably get you those as well.

Why not ,
I have since last message got the pre9 compiled and on and
working quite well as gmplayer and mplayer but it stalls in mencoder
says something about not having libmp3lame installed.

I thought these mplayerpre9's etc were supposed to be pretty much
self contained tar balls , doesn't seem like it . not so Polished output and
all that. I must say M8.2 and mplayer pre5 where I came in with installing
mplayer was much easier to install. M9 doesn't seem to suit any
of these current "pre" releases very much.

I take it

mplayer-0.90.rc2

is an rpm install , what's the chance of clashing with
my existing tar ball installs ?

Anyweay I'm will to try.

John
