I finally found one I could live with. Try Mandrake. It installs easily,
and has two advantages which may help. 1) It uses KDE as the default
window manager, and 2) The particular version of XF86 appears to support
more vid cards and monitors than some of the other distros. The Other guys
may be catching up by now, but I wouldn't know. The Walnut cursor size
thing is due to the fact that x sets the resolution and color depth down
really low for vid cards and monitors that it doesn't support. I had the
same problem with both the Calderas (lite and open). If you're hacker
enough, you cand find out what your video chipset is and set it manually
in xf86config. Same thing with the monitor. I thought I had a pretty firm
grip on hardware related stuff, but I couldn't make it work. I'm not
familliar with the card you describe, but if it's an agp or a high res pci
with any more than say 2 megs of vid ram, you're going to have trouble.
What you might be able to do is from runlevel 3 (console) try to install
the newest Xfree86, and that might support your card. Since you probably
can't get on the net yet in Linux, you might be able to download it in
winblows, then mount the partition you downloaded it to, install it as
root in console, then try running xf86config again. I don't know if this
will help or not, but it's a shot.
Good Luck
