Kaj, well put and I agree. The USA has tolerated many gangs of crooks for a
period of time. History shows the outcome of people such as "The Robber
Barons" but those people don't go away, they just grow a new appendage. Money
talks and Bulls**t walks. There is a large following of linux in the US and
every day I see more and more in trade mags like E-week and such, talking
about linux this and linux that. I believe that we are winning some of the
battles and can with effort win the war. I do not believe that M$ will go
away or be totally destroyed. They will be reduced ( in their minds) to
playing on a more level playing field and eventually have to deal with
commodity OS's.
I liken it to the field of thermodynamics. All the math and most of the
developed equations of thermo are free and open to anyone interested in
learning, as is the chemistry of phase shift chemicals and others such as
that. Expansion of gases and compression of gases and the calculations needed
for work performed are all out there. Even so, companies have taken this
'free' information and made a business out of "heating and air conditioning".
Computer code can work just as well that way as evidenced by Linux. It is
only a matter of time before the "Companies" figure out more elegant ways to
make it a paying proposition and yet the code remains free. My $.02.
