At a risk of getting dangerously off topic. Can anyone name their European 
Member of Parliment? 
I certainly cannot.

The 'Party List' system used in the UK (for Euro elections only) and in many 
other EU states means you vote for a Party not an individual. The number of 
seats a Party gets depends on the proportion of votes cast. So the names at 
the top of the list are *guaranteed* to be elected. 
Guess who gets to choose the order of the names on the list? Not us for sure.

So if a particular MEP is really bad. There is *no way* to get rid of them so 
long as they appear high up the list.

Democracy? I don't think so.
