There is a very simple way around this that works for Any version of windows. Keep the old hd as is, windows only, and move it to the slave position. Set the new hd as master. Install Mandrake on the new drive, using all or as such space as you wish. When the linux bootloader is installed an entry will automatically be made for windows. Anytime you boot windows it will not be able to 'see' your linux drive so will still believe that it is C. I have done the above with 98, 200 and XP with never a problem. It has the added benefit, as picky and fickle as it can at time be, the win bootsector/MBR is never touched.
