Tom, the drives are OEM LG drives. I have had them in three different computers and all three 9.2 update or clean install killed the drives. So I don't think it is related to any other hardware. All three computers are different spec, only thing they have in common is that I use only AMD cpus, two are Athlon XP and one Duron. It appears that the problem is indeed with the OEM cheapo drives. Wonder how a retail boxed LG would do, I chicken to try it. I will be getting several new Sony or EPO DVDroms as replacements. -- Dennis M. linux user #180842
