You are in the same sad situation that everyone else is: the apps you mention
still use the GTK+1.2 interface, and therefore do not use XFT fonts.

There are some ugly hacks, I am told, to get around this, but it may be more
trouble than it's worth.

Do a google.com/linux search on "font deuglification", and you'll see what I
mean.
