[newbie] Sound is kaput

Hello,

I must have done something to break my sound card. It worked a couple of days ago but now when KDE is initilaizing I get the following error message.

Error while initializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such file or directory)
The sound server will continue, using the null output device.

I get a similar error when loading Gnome.  I'm running MDK 9.2.  Thanks for any help you can offer!
