Yup! ISO's were verified and passed OK. Any other ideas? Has anyone been able to download and install Beta 2 ? I don't know if the same problem would have occurred with an upgrade as well, but this was a fresh install.

Just checkin the d/l'd iso's isn't sufficient, you should also verify the burned CD's with tom # md5sum /dev/hdd (<-- my burner, CD1 in it)

Tho all my beta2 CDr's pass, I haven't used them.

I suspect udev. Mandrake seems intent upon switching to it, and as of beta 2 you can't use both (ie, devfs and udev). I'm runnin a fresh beta 1 install, updated (now past beta 2) to current cooker. I lost my cd drives with udev, so I urpme'd it and re-installed devfs, edited lilo.conf to devfs=mount . Now they're again recognized as ATA: devices.

You might try the install again, choosing devfs in pkg selection. (which should eliminte udev ?) ... or search 'udev' on the cooker ml archive or bugzilla for more (better;) info.

Thanks Tom & Dennis.

I tried your suggestions but the CD's are fine (I did a sum check on the finished CD's as well), and I didn't have any drive problems either. I re-installed 10.1 Beta 1, created an rpm archive and copies all the 10.1 Beta2 rpms into it. Then I ran "genhdlist", and added this archive as my only urpmi source location. All updates are done and system seems fine. i did the kernel install separately from a console and updated Lilo.

Everything seems to be fine. There were absolutely no errors in the rpm packages (as I suspected), so I think this installer was simply pointing at the wrong location or some other minor thing was wrong. In either case, I'm about to reboot with the updated 10.1 Beta2, so keep your fingers crossed!

Once this reboot is done, I'll add the usual source location s and get the rest of my preferred packages installed - again.

Thanks again, Guys!

Lanman
