It's still pretty good. For more GUI-like presentation, you might be able to find xman still available. Or, process the manual page into Postcript or PDF and use an external viewer. But even at the console, you can scroll through the document the same way you'd scroll through any other document using the "more" functionality -- in other words, this is builtin to "man". You can page back and forth, skip to a specific keyword or phrase in the page (/word) by using the / forward slash key.
