PS After the install it did say "buggy audio file" or something. This will be because ALSA is disabled, due to previous problems.
I'm no expert so this may be the blind leading the blind here. Sometimes I've had problems with the latest packages of <insert program name here> that I download using urpmi. I've had some luck by disabling all 'net' sources and only leaving the Mdk disks to force it to install from the CD. Of course you'll need to remove the copy you currently have installed first.
