[newbie] Pine

Hello,
        I need a little help, I am a newbie who would rather use Pine
on the fly to read my mail than have to start up X just for mail. My
problem is I can't get it to work and don't know how. I'm using DHCP on
a cable modem and it gives me a funky hostname. I don't know where to
look to make changes. Can anyone help? Thanks
