Is your Viking modem an external or internal modem? The problem that
Linux has with modems is not with drivers but in knowing where to find the
modem.What problem are you having?
As for your friend there is nothing that he can do that will let his
winmodem work in Linux. I understand that their are people trying to work
out ways for winmodems in Linux. One such being linmodem.org, but I have
not been able to access the sight so I don't know what progress if any they
are making.
