Yes, apple sued microsoft in the early 80's for
stealing the GUI from them but microsoft argued
successfully that GUI is the future of computing and
as such copyrighting it is akin to trying to copyright
"book" or "magazine".  This ruling is atleast
partially responsible for Linux being able to be
distributed with macOS and winOS style GUI's without
fear of legal reprisals.

Cool huh?
