   NO.  ext2 and Reiser file systems don't require defraging like DOS 
does.  The optimization check box you refer to is to set your harddrive 
parameters.   If you're not sure you're HDD's are capable, don't choose 
this during LM install.  After installation refer to 'info hdparm' to 
see if you can increase HDD thru put.
