Do all of the following as root
add a line that looks like
append=" hdd=ide-scsi"
to the correct stanza in /etc/lilo.conf
then execute /sbin/lilo
next add the following lines to the end of
/etc/rc.d/rc.local
modprobe ide-scsi
modprob sg
now reboot, you should be able to access your cdwriter on /dev/scd0
if this works, edit your /etc/fstab to reflect this, and try writing a cd.
