Check /var/log/messages for messages generated when you plug the NIC in.
You may see a message about needing firmware. I have run into this with
a Linksys wireless NIC, also using the Prism 2 chipset. I don't remember
the RPM name with the firmware - it is on my laptop... If you can not
find it doing a search, let me know and I will look for it.
