Richard - I was getting really worried about my ability to follow simple
instructions so your message was very welcome. I tried using JOSM for my first
upload but the GPX file bounced back because of some errors. I then found my
(new) Garmin Legend HCx can produce GPX files and these upload without any
trouble so I think I will stick with Potlatch for the editing. I have now found
the extra tag lists you mention so I think I can progress a little further
mapping the west side of Nottingham - it will keep me active in my retirement!
Regards
Tony

I think David's referring to JOSM, which is a downloadable editor
program; you're using Potlatch which is the one on the Edit tab. The
two are different so David's advice won't work in your case.
To add tags which aren't in the preset menus, click the little '+'
icon at the bottom right, or press '+' on your keyboard. A new tag
will appear. Type the key (e.g. highway) where it says "key", then
type the value (e.g. service) where it says "(type value here)".
For a complete list of the tags commonly in use, see
