Yay! it works now.  I think I may have been following the wrong boot 
loader version.  one said linux-secure and I wonder if it was providing 
security by not recognizing my network card.  Or maybe I just needed to 
reboot another time.

Now I want xine to read encrypted dvds and I don't know which version of 
libdvdcss to get so it can read the encrypted dvds.  I looked for rpms 
on the internet and came to a point where it was reading the video and 
playing it fine but I wasn't getting any audio.  I don't know why.
