root is a broad group. Now remeber, FC3 using LVM, so you can resize
whenever you feel like (growing is easier, I'm told, than shrinking).

Personally, I always partition like this:
/boot 100MB
swap 1GB (twice my ram, max is at 2GB)
/ everything left (unless I plan to do something else).

Since FC3 using LVM, if you're not please with your partition layout,
you can just change it later :)
