That's what happened to me when I rode my bike hard and long one day. What can happen is that, especially on these older Nighthawks, you get some blow-by in your engine. You should always check your oil before a run, during a run, and after a run. Did you have any engine noise?

Last oil change was about 2 months ago. A few weeks ago, I rode the bike from Seattle to Walla Walla--about 275 miles each way. It was the longest, hardest riding I have done on this bike, and it was great. But, just now, I stopped for gas. After I filled up the tank, the bike wouldn't start. It was as if I had the kill switch on, but I didn't. So, I checked the oil and it was LOW. I added an entire quart before it got full!!!! Yikes!!! I know I do not have a leak. Am I burning oil?
