Fred,

Your '86 might be different from my '82, but I have only one connection on
the petcock, which is the fuel line that runs to fuel intake on the left
side of the left carb.  The bottom of each of my carbs has an overflow that
should each have a hose to drain any overflow out away from the engine and
paint (these lines should run to the same place as the battery overflow).
After I cleaned the rust out of my tank I also wanted an extra filter so I
added one in the middle of the new fuel line I put in.  It's pretty ugly
and I'm planning to remove it soon, but I wanted to make sure that I didn't
clog up my freshly cleaned carbs with freshly loosed rust and gunk.  I can
add a photo if you want, but if you imagine a small piece of a hose, a
filter, and another piece of hose all held together by hose clamps, you'll
have the right (ugly) picture.
