Starters are expensive for these bikes. I saw you've been warned about that stater chain already. Take it seriously. It brings down a lot of bikes. I have an 1984 red with 15.9k miles on it... Broken starter chain. I'm going to repair it.
As far as the engine guards, the oy ones from Honda are the single tube bars that run through to each side.
